The STEM Learning Assistants Program
The STEM Learning Assistants Program at CSUSM provides early exposure to teaching as part of classroom transformation and motivation, which in turn improves the overall learning experience for science and math students. This effort has proven productive in multiple ways: it attracts outstanding upper division mathematics and science undergraduates to teaching, providing early teaching experiences; it enhances the learning of mathematics and science students across the entire campus; it makes both faculty and student connections to our neighboring community college; and it helps the School of Education interface with faculty in Science and Mathematics. In the seminar, the students are introduced to the opportunities in the teaching profession, the pathways to earning a teaching credential and the range of scholarships available to support them through the credential process.
