Learning Assistant Program for STEM

​Sacramento State’s Learning Assistant (LA) program’s goal has been two-fold. Having LAs in introductory physics and biology courses critical to progression to degree has successfully raised the learning and pass rates for those courses. The LA program also serves as a recruitment tool for future teachers. The program provides training on pedagogical content knowledge and interactive engagement techniques that are very valuable to new teachers. The learning assistant's role is to facilitate discussion, helping to transform the instructor-centered environment, typical of large-enrollment classes, into a more interactive, collaborative, and engaging one.​
